King Saud University Inaugurates Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Research Chair for Intellectual Security Studies.
Their Excellencies Professor Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Al Othman, King Saud University Rector and Dr. Sa'ed Al Urabi, advisor to his Royal Highness the Minister of Interior inaugurated yesterday morning (Saturday) in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, speaker of the Shura (Consultative) Council, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Research Chair for Intellectual Security Studies.
At the beginning of the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Khaled bin Mansour Al Drees, Supervisor of the Chair, gave a presentation in which he highlighted the goals and the importance of the Chair, stressing the fact that it deals with the study of the devious thought that threatens the safety and stability of society. He added that through the appropriate scientific and methodological research and studies, King Saud University is trying to implement the intellectual security which will eventually bring stability and development to the society. Dr. Al Drees added that King Saud University has put forward a strategy to implement these goals, consisting mainly of a series of research activities, workshops, and scientific meetings, in addition to a number of other activities.
Dr. Al Urabi, on his side referred in his speech to the continuous support provided by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and Their Highnesses the Princes to the sector of Higher Education, stressing the fact that the latter is the basis for the development of the nation. He then praised the initiative of King Saud University to establish the Research Chairs Program, showing that it is a step-forward towards the achievement of a strong cultural renaissance. Dr. Al Urabi also praised the interaction of the Saudi businessmen with the Chairs Program, adding that His Royal Highness, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz was the first to sponsor a research chair at King Saud University, and that he also sponsored the Research Chair for National Unity at Mohamed bin Saud Islamic University. At the end of his speech, Dr. Al Urabi expressed his gratitude to Dr. Al Othman, Professor Ali bin Saeed Al Ghamdi, King Saud University Deputy-Rector for Branches Affairs and Supervisor of the Research Chairs Program, and to all of those concerned with Prince Nayef Chair for Intellectual Security Studies for all of their efforts.
Following this, King Saud University Rector, Professor Abdullah bin Abdurrahman Al Othman inaugurated the Chair's website on the Internet. Then the first research publications of the Chair were revealed. They consist of two books; the first one is titled : 'Adhering to International Treaties and Conventions – A Scientific Dialogue with Terror and Extremism Groups', by Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Ayed, and the second is titled 'The Intellectual Message on the Internet – An Analytical View of the Qualities and Features of Electronic Extremism', by Dr. Fayez bin Abdullah Al Shehri.
At the end of the ceremony, Dr. bin Humaid. Speaker of the Shura Council gave a lecture in which he stressed the importance of intellectual security, quoting verses from the Holy Quran. He then talked about the most adequate methods to preserve intellectual security; mainly through teaching moderation to our children.
After the lecture, Dr. Al Othman presented the University Trophy to Dr. Al Urabi and to Dr. Al Humaid.
