His Excellency Dr. Al Othman and the Physicist Mounir Naifah Inaugurating the “Research Chairs” Website

His Excellency the King Saud University Rector, Professor Abdullah Al Othman, and the international nanotechnology expert, Professor Mounir Naifah, inaugurated the Website for the “Research Chairs” Program recently launched by King Saud University, and which is aimed at establishing social partnership towards building a knowledge-motivated community in the Kingdom.

It is worth-mentioning that Dr. Naifah, the Physics Professor at the University of Illinois, had previously visited King Saud University and met with His Excellency the Rector, the Chairman of the King Abdullah Program for Nanotechnology at the University, Professor Ali Al Ghamdi and the Program members.  The purpose of the meting was to put in perspective the cooperation endeavors between the University and Dr. Naifah and to seek partnership with the University of Illinois in the application of nanotechnology.

During the meeting, His Excellency the University Rector informed Professor Naifah of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Research on Nanotechnology at the University, which was created thanks to a 12 million-riyal personal donation from his Majesty.  Included in the Program is the project to build the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for research on Nanotechnology.  The Program stipulated the membership of Dr. Naifah as a part-time Professor in the Institute in order to assimilate the recent developments in the field and transfer expertise from the University of Illinois to King Saud University through a joint research program comprising Professor Naifah and Saudi researchers in the field of nanotechnology.

It should also be noted that King Saud University, thanks to the support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown prince – may Allah preserve them – is now entering a new era in scientific research and development, marked by the implementation of the current national strategy of transforming the Kingdom’s economy into one based on knowledge.  Such an undertaking requires the application of scientific research to that effect.  This may be achieved by seeking assistance from world-class experts, such as Professor Naifah, and partnership with world-leading universities, such as the University of Illinois.
