Chinese Professor Chning Chen visits the Center and delivers two
lectures on Nanotechnology
The Center of Science and Medical Studies Departments in Malaz of King Saud University organized, in collaboration with Dr. Ali Al Shitwi from the Faculty of Agriculture, and the King Abdullah Institute for Nanotechnology (Women's Section) a visit to the Science and Medical Studies Departments in Malaz program for Professor Chning Chen - from the National nstitute for Nano Science Technology in China - on Sunday 29/5/1430 and Monday 1/6/1430.
The visit Started by a meeting between the Chinese Professor and the Supervisor of the Science and Medical Studies Departments, Dr. Amal Fattani and then the first lecture entitled "Applications of Nanotechnology in the Food and pharmaceuticals Industry," was organized in the Scientific Forum Hall on Sunday, 29/5/1430. The Professor began the lecture with an introduction on the National Institute for Nano Science Technology in China and introduced two books published by the National Institute for Nano Science Technology in China. Then she presented an overview on the industrial applications of nanotechnology, such as: its use in the production of energy and in the field of communications and other fields. She also spoke about the interest of China in nano-technology and its establishment of institutes, instruments and laboratories for training of young scientists in this area. She then presented a summary on the applications of nanotechnology in the production, manufacturing, preservation and packing of food. She concluded the lecture by talking about the use of nanotechnology in medicines and pharmacology. After the lecture, a group of the organizers accompanied the Professor on a tour of the university during which she attended a lunch and then visited the Research Center, the office of the Deputy Rector of the University for Knowledge Exchange of and Technology Transfer. She listened to a brief description on the programs organized by the university. After the tour, we had a brief meeting with the Professor in which she expressed her admiration for the remarkable progress and level enjoyed by King Saud University and for the hospitality and good reception and organization. She outlined that the aim of the visit was the cooperation with King Saud University to establish a Nano laboratory in the university campus in the science and medical studies departments in Malaz. In the evening, a dinner party was held in the honor of the Professor in the Scientific Forum Hall.
On Monday 1/6/1430 and as part of the visit program, Professor Chen visited the faculties of medicine and pharmacology and met with the deputy deans of Medicine and Pharmacology colleges. Then she delivered her second lecture under the title: "Health and environmental security of nano materials".
She began her lecture by talking about the interactions of nano-materials with bio systems. She then talked about the development and effectiveness of nano parts in the bio systems. After that, she talked about nano security laboratory in China which is devoted to the bio effects of nano materials and the extent of their safety.
After the lecture, the Professor met with the teaching staff of the faculties of medicine and pharmacology. She then attended a luncheon and concluded the visit with a meeting with female graduate students of the two faculties.
