The Student Rights Protection Committee

The project of establishing this unit aims to create a climate in favor of the student rights based on legal bases inside the university, in an attempt to eliminate the wrong perception which consider the students as vessels of obligations and duties, without having the rights that secure for them a stable and successful university life. In order to protect the students rights, it is required to establish a body provided with factors of neutrality and independence to look into their grievances, a matter which is enshrined by university environments in the various aspects. There is no doubt about the importance of upholding the value of these rights among our students, because of its impact on the development of a culture of equity and justice, and this helps in creation of an safe university environment where the rights are preserved and the values and ethics are taken into account. This will yield welfare for the society as a whole, once the graduates undertake the burdens of the responsibility of their homeland in the various fields.

The Rector of the University ordered the establishment of this unit and providing it with a permanent headquarters and the material and human potentials in order to fulfill its role to safeguard the rights of university students. A committee was formed for this purpose and it has developed a general perception for the work of this unit.

Pillars of the project:
1- To prepare a document called the (student rights declaration) which includes an integrated system of rights and duties, the student must sign as soon as he enters the university. The objective of signing is not only an obligation for the student to abide by its contents, but also for acknowledging him of its contents in advance before entering the university so that he can stick to his rights in the event of an injustice. For the current students, they are given the opportunity to sign the document and keep a copy in their files.
2- The complaint should be considered in two stages: the first stage starts through sub-committees for the protection of student rights established in the university colleges, in charge of looking into complaints of students while they continue their studies at university, while the complaining students can complain in a second stage before the central unit.
3- Consideration is to be given to the primacy of the legal component in forming the central unit for the protection of student rights.
4- Participation of students by including a representative of the students in the membership of the student rights protection committees in the different colleges

Sub-committees for protection of student rights will be formed at the beginning of each academic year in every college. While the central unit will be formed by a decree from His Excellency the Rector. The Unit shall consider the grievances of students against the decisions of the student rights protection committees in the different colleges.

The Student Rights sub-committees are responsible for looking into the written complaints and grievances of students according to the following:
1- Student complaints concerning material errors in the monitoring of the degrees of final exams, without having the right to intervene in the discretion of assessments of the faculty member who corrected the exam.
2- Student complaints concerning arbitrary and ill-treatment by faculty members.
3- Complaints related to depriving students of university services provided for other similar students.
