Traditional Architecture Inspires Modern-day Designs: Prince

HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, head of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, called for giving chance to those interested and specialized in architecture to renew the concept of urban heritage, in addition to specialists .

In statements when he inaugurated Prince Sultan Research Chair of Urban Heritage last Saturday at the KSU, Prince Sultan said the KSU would build a new district on old architecture style of mud. The district is made in collaboration with the Supreme Commission of Ar-Riyadh Development to implement its thought in architecture.

The Saudi architecture might be peculiar and different to all other styles if intermingled with the traditional architecture, said he. He added the number of old building demolished went down to zero last year after a relevant resolution was issued to stop destroying the traditional style of architecture.

“However, our traditional architecture inspires the modern-day architecture,” he noted.
