We Break Ice in Student-Faculty Member Relationship: Dean
The College of Law and Political Sciences develops all subjects at present in a step scheduled in an overall plan to upgrade the deliverables to meet with labor market needs, said Dr. Sarhan Al-Otaiby, the dean, in an interview.
Resalah: What is your development plan?
Al-Otaiby: To achieve our vision, the college initiated a new deanship; Development and Quality Deanship. The deanship helps the college be a leading one and will execute the Academic Accreditation and Assessment Program. The program will upgrade the deliverables of the college to serve the private and public sector. I seek to have the college an exemplar to all colleges on campus.
Resalah: Is it different to other development plans?
Al-Otaiby: Yes, it is since the faculty members execute 50% of the plan. In addition, it is more comprehensive than others. It focuses on assessing deliverables; improving quality assurance; studying the mainstream in law education; reviewing academic plans to go in line with international criteria; and creating a creative environment luring top-notch faculty members.
Resalah: Describe the work process?
Al-Otaiby: We work in full harmony as a bee cell , and convene even at weekends most of the time to finish assignments in time.
Resalah: The KSU president and the vice-president have always lauded your try of development. Why?
Al-Otaiby: The college is a pioneer in Saudi Arabia to have a student council led by a student chairperson who attends the department meetings when discussing student affairs. It is the pioneer to set up law club, a politics club, and many development units.
Resalah: What is the effect of allowing student council chairperson to meetings?
Al-Otaiby: The student gives feedback different in core since it is based upon a student perspective. This helps break the ice in the relationship between students and faculty members. It encourages students to partake in decision making, and not to receive decisions.
