Medical Service Standard is Upgraded: Chair Director

The website of sheikh Bahedman Research chair would be a reference to physicians and those working in medical field. The chair helps upgrade the medical service standard, said Dr. Lubna Al-Ansary, chairperson of organizing committee and director of the chair, in an interview with Resalah.

Resalah: What are the workshop objectives?

Dr. Lubna: It targets probing the new trend in medical profession: sharpening skills of making questions on clinical exams; running electronic researches; and reading critically; in addition to broadening their horizons towards evidence-based medicine.

Resalah: Who addressed the workshop?

Dr. Lubna: Professor Dr. Paul G., director of Oxford Centre for Evidence-based medicine, and professor Dr. Abdul-Ghaffar Abdul-Haqq, the regional advisor of WHO Middle East office.

Resalah: Who attended the workshop?

Dr. Lubna: A pool of physicians from the Gulf countries: 16 consultants; 14 pharmacists; 28 postgraduates and researchers; and 12 internships.

Resalah: How was the workshop going?

Dr. Lubna: To render the workshop a success, we applied team-based learning; small groups were forged; questions were given to them; and 16 hours for discussions. 16 lectures were given and sessions were held to sharpen skills of participants.

Resalah: How was the workshop assessed?

Dr. Lubna: We applied two ways, the first was more practical; some questions were given to participants and the answers were different than those given in the beginning of the workshop. It proved that the participants gave better answers after the workshop. The second way was the traditional one that based upon feedbacks on organization, lectures, and speakers' performance.

Resalah: What is the future plans of the chair?

Dr. Lubna: The chair is planning to hold a chain of conferences and workshops in a step to set up an academic center at the King Saud University to upgrade the standard of evidence-based medicine.

Resalah: Give a final word to Resalah!

Dr. Lubna: I promise to continue holding seminars and conferences till the chair achieves its mission: to be a neutral resource to improve medical service Saudi-wide.
