The academic council of King Saud University takes over many tasks set by the higher education system in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia taking along the University's vision to achieve the global leadership and excellence in constructing the knowledge society through the recruitment of works and functions of the council in achieving this vision. However, the council's role is not limited to the application of these regulations, but also extends to the development of these regulations and reviewing them to keep pace with the best international practices and to contribute in achieving the university's vision actively and influentially.
 

At the level of the academic research, the council is working to develop the executive regulations to contribute to advancing the sober academic research and increase the level of its quality and quantity in various disciplines. The council should also promote the culture of excellence in the academic research and to provide the opportunities that stimulate the faculty of the university to achieve it through the promotion regulations, sabbatical leave programs and to encourage attending the training courses and local and international conferences and to submit researches and working papers in them.
 

At the level of the faculty employment, the council is adopting the standards and procedures that ensure the employment of the academically and scientifically excellent members through the careful and accurate study of the achievements and resumes of the applicants applying for employment at the university.
 

At the level of publication of academic, translated and examined books, the council's vision focuses on the necessary of the published books to be of high level in the academic term, and to be a real addition to the library of sciences, through the accurate assessment and the specializing arbitration for each book.
 

The academic council starts out of the adopted valuables to the use of technology to simplify and speed up the escalation of the quality of performed operations through the ideal usage of the electronic transactions and the effective communications between the faculty members and the members of the standing committees and the faculty members of the University. All meetings of the academic council and standing committees, today, have become electronic meetings without papers. The initiative of the academic council in this regard – on the magnitude of the paperwork that comes before it – is considered as an incentive to adopt it by the other universities councils and their committees to dispense the paper copy for meetings.
 

The academic council feels the importance of its role in raising the level of the academic research and publication at the university on both quantitative and qualitative sides, and its role in the care of faculty, as well as to provide all the causes to increase their effectiveness and motivation for excellence in teaching, academic research and the service of the university and society, in addition to working hard to perform this role to the fullest.
