CLINICAL INVESTIGATIONS GROUP:

Team of Research:

This group aims to improve the detection and management of oculovisual disorders as well as ocular disease. The focus of the research is on the validation of new clinical techniques and the modification of existing techniques to facilitate the detection and management of common oculovisual disorders and diseases.

The series of investigations by this group aim to understand and analyze the interactions between the metrics of oculovisual parameters, the oculovisual parameters, the protocols employed in the assessment of these parameters and the techniques used for measurement. The aim is to understand these interactions enough improve the speed, accuracy and reliability of monitoring oculovisual parameters which would lead to better more efficient management of these disorders and an improved quality of life for the patient.

Current Projects

  • Investigation of the effect of corneal biomechanics on the intraocular pressure

  • Validation of new tonometers for accuracy and reliability against the gold-standard Goldman applanation tonometer.

  • Investigation of the influence of existing protocols on the accuracy of the measured intraocular pressure

  • Determination of normative data and repeatability of visual field assessments to determine cut-off values that indicate an on-going disease process.

  • Investigation and validation of rapid quantitative assessment of anterior chamber depth in normal and angle-closure suspects.
