The College of Architecture and Planning at King Saud University was founded in 1404 H (1983). The department of Architecture and Building Sciences was a core branch of the College, which became the first academic institution for architectural education in the Arabian Peninsula at that time. The department’s foundation goes back to 1387 H (1966), which was one of the departments of the College of Engineering.
College of Architecture and Planning with its two departments, i. e. Department of Architecture and Building Sciences and Department of Urban Planning, is an essential branch of human knowledge, as it combines both art and science. Also, it has a strong association with other human sciences. A successful architect or planner is a professional who gives careful attention to society and culture, and looks into the future and learns from the past in order to develop an authentic product that responds to the community’s needs and serves both local environment and culture.
Architects and Planners are to preserve the relationships between the building and its immediate surroundings and put forward ideas in a framework of distinct urban nature at the city level as well as the national level and comply with the Islamic perception of humans and the environment. In addition, he should benefit from the modern information technology and new materials and current construction methods. It should be noted that study of any these specializations requires self-endurance, patience and must at the same time be enjoyable. It is also associated with imagination, order and self need to be very precise and well-ordered.
