A) Bachelor Program
To fulfill the requirements of the Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning and Design, students have to successfully complete courses with a total of 160 credit hours. This can be achieved in 10 semesters (5 years). These credit/hour units are distributed as follows:
1- Part One
This part consists of the University and the College required courses with a 72 credit/hour total. In this part, the bases of Urban Sciences as well as the University required courses, such as Mathematics, Islamic Culture, English and Arabic, are taught to students. The time required to complete this period is two years, during which the basic Urban Science courses are taught by professors from both the Urban Planning and the Architecture departments. After this two-year period and upon completing the first part, students are able to choose the department in which they wish to enroll.
2- Part Two
This part consists of the Urban Planning required courses with a 69 credit/hour total. Urban Planning, Urban Design and Environmental Planning courses are taught in this part.
3- Part Three
This part consists of the courses required by the specialization track with a 19-credit hour total. Students can choose either the Urban Planning or the Urban Design specialization.
B) Graduate Programs (Master)
Stemming from the desire to achieve development objectives in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with the importance of educational investment, and in response to the needs of a comprehensive urban boom with its urban, as well as population, growth in all cities, the Department of Urban Planning developed its graduate program as part of its attempt to play a key role in the national development.
As a result of the generous support of the government to ensure an elite science and education, the graduate programs include a highly-qualified faculty with various specializations and emphasis on all urban fields.
The following programs are available. The Urban and Regional Planning master’s degree is currently available. The other two programs are approved and will be activated very shortly.
