ACHIEVEMENTS "Facts and Numbers" 

1. The herbarium of the Center has collected and identified more than 9,000 herbarium specimens of the plants.
2. Fifteen new species of plants have been discovered and added to the existing Saudi Arabian Flora.
3. More than 400 plants screened for their phytochemical and biological activities.
4. The Medicinal Plants Garden undertakes cultivation of many plants from date palm to Artemisia annua.
5. The number of compounds isolated from Saudi Plants is 140, of which 60 were found to be new entities, not previously identified in other source. Most of these compounds exhibited biological activities, such as regulators. One compound "Saudin" has been patented in the United States of America.
6. Four national projects on medicinal plants, crude drugs (Folk medicine), Khat (Catha edulis} and on Spices have been awarded to the Center.
7. About 100 expeditions were made to various parts of the Kingdom to collect medicinal plants and gather information on their folkloric use in traditional medicine.
