The MAPPRC has the following objectives and interests:

  1. Scientific evaluation of the indigenous medicinal herbs and crude drugs (available in local markets) used in Arab Traditional Medicine by local population and folk healers.
  2. Development of new drugs from natural resources of the Kingdom.
  3. Detailed toxicological and safety evaluation studies on poisonous plants causing human and catties' health hazard.
  4. Scientific and analytical studies on essential oils obtained from locally available aromatic plants for their possible utilization in health, food, cosmetic and in perfumery.
  5. To bring out a comprehensive "Herbal Pharmacopoeia".
  6. Carry out investigation of marine organisms for their therapeutic and toxic potential.
  7. Combine the efforts of research on medicinal, aromatic and poisonous plants in related departments of the University in one unit.
  8. Initiation of small units in various locations of the Kingdom to enhance cultivation and conservation of some selected medicinal herbs.
  9. Creation of geographical locations map indicating poisonous plants prevalence.
