College Mission

The College of Pharmacy, King Saud University is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and public/professional service in areas unique to the practice of pharmacy and to the pharmaceutical sciences.  The College is dedicated to the education and training of students to provide patient-oriented care as pharmacy practitioners, to the development and enhancement of practitioners' skills necessary for pharmaceutical care provision, to the conduct of research and other scholarly activities designed to improve the drug knowledge of health care providers and the optimal use of drugs by practitioners and patients.  In addition, the faculty and staff of College of Pharmacy, KSU, are devoted to creating, transmitting and applying knowledge based on research in the basic and applied pharmaceutical sciences for the ultimate aim of improving health and, in turn, enhancing quality of life for those utilizing pharmaceutical services. 

Goals

The College of Pharmacy, King Saud University, is committed to creating an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity, diversity, and personal empowerment.  This will enable the students to learn in a comfortable academic environment. The intended learning experience celebrates knowledge, encourages personal growth and awareness, acknowledges the benefits of diverse experiences, learning styles, and values, and engenders personal and societal values that benefit the individual and society.  College of Pharmacy at KSU will develop curricula based on sound knowledge of the discipline and input from pharmacy practitioners.  Students will acquire skills and knowledge for a lifetime of learning, and will be involved in scholarly and creative pursuits.
 
College of Pharmacy, KSU has several major goals that guide the College planning its efforts. These goals are as follows:
 
§   To serve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a high-caliber academic institution of pharmacy education.
§   To create a compelling learning experience for students, staff, and faculty.
§   To be recognized as a top-tier College of Pharmacy in regard to all appropriate measures that are acknowledged internationally, especially involving teaching and research.
§   To create and apply knowledge that contributes to the well-being of the Kingdom and the quality of life of its citizen.

 Program Objectives

Upon completion of their degree, graduates will have:
 
§   developed a mastery of the knowledge base in the basic, pharmaceutical and clinical sciences essential to fulfill all of the roles of pharmacy practitioners as health care providers;
§   demonstrated skills in the technical, social, and behavioral aspects of pharmacy, including communication skills;
§   illustrated the integration of knowledge and skills in the optimization of medication management and use for a wide range of people;
§   acquired the skills and attitudes necessary for a commitment to life-long learning, including skills to retrieve, critically appraise, disseminate, and apply new knowledge; and
§   developed an understanding of the pharmacist's role in health care and illness prevention and the ability to perform this role.
