Dear Visitor,
On behalf of the Faculty and Administrative Staff at the College of Pharmacy, I thank you for your interest in our school and welcome you to our webpage.
The College of Pharmacy at King Saud University was the first college of Pharmacy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the entire Gulf Area, and it has established an excellent reputation regarding its undergraduate program for the quality of teaching and research since its establishment in 1959. It currently employs about 100 faculty and administrative staff, and enrolls 50 graduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D. students) and 1000 undergraduate students, including 35 international students.
Research and development have dramatically changed the role of pharmacy in patient treatment over the past fifty years. Today, the profession realizes the concept that pharmacists are directly responsible for achieving definite outcomes, and improving quality of life. Pharmacists, in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals, develop, implement, and monitor a therapeutic plan to ensure specific outcomes. Closely involved in the selection of medicines, they assess therapeutic plans and counsel patients on appropriate uses of medications. All these developments point to the fact that the pharmacist’s role is now much vital than it has ever been. We envision the pharmacist as an integral part of the health care provider team. Our graduates are trained to be experts in patient drug therapy, as well as agents of change within the field of pharmacy. At the College of Pharmacy, we are committed to extending the scope of the pharmacy profession and preparing leaders who will best serve the needs of the growing population of our country, Saudi Arabia.
Our faculty have engaged in advanced, novel and innovative research projects, and have a remarkable list of publications including books, patents and articles in highly reputed well recognized international journals. Some of these researches are in collaboration with research centers within or outside the university, namely College of Pharmacy Research Center, The Research Center of Medicinal, Aromatic and Poisonous Plants, King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology and Prince Abdullah Institute for Research and Consultation.
I hope that this brief overview will be useful for potential students interested in studying pharmacy or those researchers hoping conducting fruitful research at our college. Thank you for visiting our webpage. Sincerely, Abdlatif A. Al-Dhuwailie, Ph.D. Vice-Dean for Administrative Affairs Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy
