1. Central Instrumental Lab.
This laboratory houses advanced scientific instruments which are operated and maintained by specialized technicians. These instruments are used in research for the identification and structure elucidation of chemical compounds. These instruments Include Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Gas Chromatograph, GC/MS, Thermal Analyzer and Powder X-ray diffractometer.
2. Drugs and Water Analysis lab
This laboratory is responsible for the analysis of drugs in their Pharmaceutical forms to ensure their compliance with official and international standards. This unit also performs chemical analysis of water samples to ensure suitability for human consumption.
3. Microbiology Lab
This laboratory is responsible for microbiological analysis of water to ensure its compliance with official and international standards. Other activities of the laboratory include: determination of potency of antibiotics in pharmaceutical preparations as well as antimicrobial activity of plant extracts and sterility testing of various pharmaceuticals
4. Physical Pharmacy Lab
This laboratory conducts the quality control of drugs regarding their stability and homogenecity. Moreover, the laboratory cooperates with governmental hospitals and the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization in determining the quality of pharmaceuticals and commercial products. In addition, the laboratory provides the students with formal training in quality control of pharmaceuticals.
5. Biological Analysis Lab
In this laboratory the toxicity of some drugs is tested using experimental animals. The parenteral solutions are analyzed for pyrogen-free conformity. The laboratory is involved in academic research and consultation services to other governmental and private sectors.
6. Radioisotope Lab
The function of the laboratory is the use of radioisotope tracers in scientific research. Practical classes and demonstrations for undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students are conducted in this laboratory. |
