INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

SCOPE:
The Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal (SPJ) is published every six months by the Saudi Pharmaceutical Society. The journal accepts articles that conform to its scope and editorial standards. The scope encompasses various disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences and related clinical subjects that are of interest to practicing pharmacists and other health professionals. The journal will publish original research articles, review articles, short communications, case studies, and letters to the editor. Abstracts of meetings and symposia will also be considered for publication. All submitted papers are subject to extensive review by the editorial board and by a panel of referees.

Manuscript Submission:
All manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter. The name, full mailing address, telephone and/or fax numbers of the corresponding author should be included in the cover letter. The Editorial board will consider for publication original papers on work that has not previously been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere. Authors should make a statement to that effect. Papers with joint authorship must be approved by all authors, for submission. Authorship should be based on substantial intellectual contribution to the paper. One author is designated for correspondence.
Four copies of the manuscript and figures are required. Mailing in heavy-paper envelope with adequate protection for the figures is recommended. Permission to reproduce published material, to use illustrations or information that is of personal nature, should be obtained and submitted along with the manuscript.

Copyrights:

Authors are requested to transfer to SPJ exclusive copyrights and the accepted manuscripts become the property of the journal and may not be published elsewhere without written permission.

Manuscript Preparation:
The format of the Saudi Pharmaceutical Journal complies with the standards of styles for manuscripts found in the document "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals." published in the Annals of Internal Medicine (1988; 108: 258-265). Authors are requested to use SI units as the primary listing and to include, in parentheses, other conventional units only when their listing is extremely necessary to improve immediate understanding of the article content. All articles submitted should conform to the following publication style:
Manuscripts should be typed double spaced on one side of A4 paper with margins of at least 25 mm (1 in). Pages should be numbered consecutively starting with the title page. When a manuscript is accepted for publications, authors are encouraged to submit ASCII diskette with the final draft.

Title Page:
The title page should carry: (1)title of the article; (2)first name, middle initial, and last name of each author; (3)name and address of the institution to which the work should be attributed.

Abstract and Keywords:
An abstract is required for all manuscripts except editorials and letters to the editor. The abstract should follow the title, state the purpose of study, basic procedure, main findings and principle conclusion, and limited to 250 words or less.

Text:
The text should be divided into sections with the headings: introduction, materials and methods, results, and/or discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments, and references.

Introduction should clearly state the purpose of the article and summarize previously related publications and the rationale for the study.

Methods
Describe sampling procedures apparatus, methods of study, and any statistical analysis in sufficient details to allow other workers to reproduce the results.

Results
The results should be presented in logical sequence. Do not  repeat in thetext all  the data in  the tables or illustrations,  or both. Emphasis should be only on important observations.

Discussion
Implications of the findings and their limitations should be included. Relate the observations to other relevant studies. Avoid repeating the results under discussion. Link the conclusions with the goals of the study but avoid unsubstantiated statements and conclusions not completely supported by data.
