The College Participates in the 10-Program Developmental Review Commissioned by NCAAA |
|
KSU College of Pharmacy participated in the 10-program developmental review commissioned by the national commission for academic accreditation and assessment (NCAAA) in the period from November 8th - 12th, 2008 (11-14 Dhul Qiadah 1429H). The college underwent full review of its academic program and facilities according to the eleven quality standards for higher education required by the NCAAA. The external review panel included Professors Collin Chapman (Monash University, Australia), George Spratto (West Virginia University, USA) and Beverly Glass (James Cook University, Australia). The review panel's conclusion commended the college for its established strong bachelor degree of pharmaceutical sciences program and gave the assessment that in the event of a full accreditation process, KSU college of pharmacy would receive a provisional accreditation. | |

For fifty years now, the College has been committed to teaching, conducting research, and providing services to the public in areas unique to the practice of pharmacy and to the pharmaceutical sciences. To mark the significance of this milestone in Saudi healthcare, this occasion coincides with the introduction of the Pharm. D. program. | |

We are very impressed with the quality of pharmacy education and practice at King Saud University and its clinical sites,” said President Charles F. Monahan from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) in USA, who was accompanied by Dr. George Humphrey, Vice President for College Relations, and Dr. Caroline Zeind, Chair and Professor of Pharmacy Practice at MCPHS-Boston during their visit to KSU. “This collaboration will provide both institutions with a unique opportunity to develop cross-cultural and international perspectives on pharmaceutical care.”

Dr. Yousif Asiri, Dean of the College of Pharmacy at King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, delivered the 12th Annual Michael J. Ordman Memorial Lecture in Reed Hall. The presentation was titled “Pharmacy Education in King Saud University: Past, Present and Future.”

A Lion share of Prizes for the College
Six Faculty Members Win Dr. Kayyali Research Prizes |

Six faculty members of the College of Pharmacy won Dr. Walid Kayyali Prize for Research in Pharmacy in both prize categories. Dean Yosef Asiri won the first prize in Pharmacy practice for his research about poisoning. The third and fourth prizes in pharmacy practice went to Professor Hisham Abou-Auda and Dr. Hisham Al-Judhie, respectively. In the the basic science section of the prize, professor Hussein Al-Sabbagh achieved the first place followed by Dr. Tawfik al-Howiriny and Dr. Ibrahim alsarra in the second and third places, respectively.

H.E. University Rector Inaugurates Dr. Kayyali Research Chair |

His Excellency Professor Abdullah A. Al-Othman, the University Rector, inaugurated Dr. Walid A. Al-Kayyali Chair for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing. This research chair was established this year with a generous donation of SR 5 million within the pharmaceutical Technology Center under the auspices of the Department of Pharmaceutics at the College of Pharmacy. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Walid Al-Kayyali the owner of Al-Haya Medical Company (AMCO), Prof. Ali Al-Ghamdi the Vice Rector for research and Dr. Yosef Abdo Asir, the Dean of College of Pharmacy.

We Are All-University Soccer Champions in 2008 |

The college of pharmacy has been chosen for a university-wide program to certify a select number of university sectors for the quality management system certificate (ISO 9001:2000). The college is currently participating in weekly sessions at the deanship for quality in the university to help obtaining the certificate in the near future. Dr. Adnan Kadi the Vice-Dean for Development & Quality Assurance is actively involved in this task. |

The College of Pharmacy soccer team has won the All-around University football (Soccer) Championship this season. Dean Yosef Asiri received the champions in his office and congratulated them for this achievement.

The Dean of College of Pharmacy, University of Florida visits Riyadh |
|
Dr. William H. Riffee, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Ian Tebbett, Professor and Director of online Forensic Science Programs, and Dr. David Benson Brushwood from the University of Florida, Gainesville, visited the College of Pharmacy, King Saud University on Tuesday October 28, 2008 where they held a meeting with Dean Asiri and discussed future collaboration between the two schools of pharmacy. The group visited the Drug and Poison Information Center, the cenral research laboratory and the saudi Pharmaceutical Society.
