Prof. David Gross (2004 Nobel Prize in Physics), Frederick W. Gluck Professor of Theoretical Physics and Director of Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA will be visiting KSU 21-23/3/1429 H
prof. Gross will deliver two talks:
The Coming Revolutions in Fundamental Physics
and
The Future of Physics
Details:
Sunday 22/3/1429 H at 11:00 am
at the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy in King Saud University
Talk Title: "The Coming Revolutions in Fundamental Physics"
Talk Abstract: The necessity to go beyond the standard model of particle physics and to understand quantum gravity has led to string theory. This ambitious attempt to unify all the forces of nature and all forms of matter as different vibrations of a string-like object is still in a pre-revolutionary stage. Although remarkable progress has been achieved in the last decade in understanding the perturbative and non-perturbative structure of string theory, we still lack a fundamental understanding of the theory. Many string theorists suspect that a profound conceptual change in our concept of space and time will be required for the final formulation of string theory.
Second Talk:
Monday 23/3/1429 H at 12:30 pm
Building 7 Room 7B
A public lecture about "The Future of Physics"
Talk Abstract: In this talk, Prof. Gross will discuss 25 questions that might guide physics, in the broadest sense, over the next 25 years.
