Invertase and α-amylase activities in egg-plant (Solanum melongena L.) infected by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn and Fusarium solani (Martius) Appel and Wollenweber

M. O. Basalah, A. A. A. Suleiman & Sher Mohammad. ÖYTON 46(2): 157-161: XI 1986.

Fruits of egg-plant ( Solanum melongena L.) infected by Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn and Fusarium solani (Martius) Apple and Wollenweber showed increased invertase activity . Infection by R. solani also resulted in an increased  α-amylase activity . Reducing sugar content of fruits increased but the increase was greater for R.solani than for F. solani. Non-reducing sugars decreased in fruits infected by both fungi. Polysaccharides in the insoluble hydrolysate increased significantly in fruits infected by R. solani but nonsignificantly in those infected by F. solani.
