Brief History

Because of the large population in Al-Aflaj  and the neighboring areas, as well as lack of university-level studies, Al-Aflaj region was chosen to host one of these colleges. Thus, the Community College in Al-Aflaj, was established in 1423A as an affiliate of King Saud University,

The City of Al-Aflaj

Al-Aflaj (plural of “Falj”) literary means ‘the crack through which water spouts from the ground’. In old days, Al-Aflaj was famous for its rich resources of water and bore-holes which ran out through small and large streams, leading to improvement in the agricultural sector, particularly in the traditional crops of date palms, wheat and some vegetables. Besides this, Al-Aflaj is a historic city with unique ruins from an old civilization. It is also one of Riyadh’s Provinces, located approximately 300 kilometers southwest of Riyadh. The city has good health care services, educational centers and a passport department. Laiyla is the central city of Al-Aflaj. It was named after the historic figures Qais and Laiyla and their classical love story; the remains of their residence can be seen in Al-Gheel village.

Al-Aflaj has a large number of villages and settlements inhibited by more than 100,000 people, working in farming, trade and education. Moreover, large quantities of oil have been recently discovered in the area which will hopefully lead to a promising and prosperous future for the region and local people.
