Dr. Ibrahim M. Al Majed
Assistant Professor and Consultant of Pediatric Dentistry
Chairman, Interns Training Committee
I am delighted to warmly welcome you to the most diverse and ultimate scheme of the Interns Training Program, the integral training arm for this College dental graduates.
While I reminisce on my days as a dental student, some years ago, I can still link up to those fears of disappointing a much admired professor or frustrations of not being able to master a procedure as quickly as I thought I should.
Let me impart to these dedicated dental educators – my professors – a lot of credit for impressing upon me just how critical it was that I have a full understanding of the diagnoses, procedures and research that would have a direct impact on my ability to one day advance patient’s oral health.
In my undertaking as Chairman of the Interns Training Committee of King Saud University, College of Dentistry, time and again, I consider how we can most effectively impart the seriousness of learning how to properly care for another’s dental health while eliminating a bit of that anxiety of aggravation in the educational process, that is to say recurrence and mentorship.
As a dental student, I always looked forward to that day when I would make a disparity as a dental practitioner. This would be after I accomplished my internship training, when my friends and I could finally greet each other and our professors as colleagues.
The Internship Training Program have successfully revolutionized since 1980s and one of the changes is that interns are much more inclined than ever before to view themselves as colleagues within the dental profession while they are in dental school and affiliated hospitals. As dental educators, we do all we can during the internship training to encourage interns more inclusive idea of their role within our learning and clinical environment. Nevertheless, our interns are making enduring and significant contributions to the life of the College of Dentistry in many ways: leading community education efforts, providing patient care, organizing events to highlight awareness of oral health and other issues and contributing to research efforts.
As you will see from perusing this section of the website, there had been a number of people who comprised the administrative team of the program. May I therefore be given this chance to sincerely recognize and significantly regard the former Chairmen of the Program, Professor Abdullah Al Shammery, Prof. Abdullah S. Al Yahya, Dr. Saleh M. Al Shamrani, Dr. Zaki Fakiha and Dr. Yousef Al Dlaigan who bonded and held the Interns Training Committee together, providing essential leadership and support for the academic, research and patient care missions of the program.
