GENERAL OBJECTIVES
The objective of the program for a Master’s Degree and Certificate of Clinical Competency in Periodontics is to develop Periodontists with sound academic background on which to base diagnosis, clinical treatment, research and teaching. Since the Science of Dentistry is a combination of biomedical, behavioral and clinical disciplines, a structured curriculum in both biomedical and clinical dental sciences is provided.
Advanced educational programs must be designed to provide special knowledge and skills beyond the highest standards of accepted undergraduate programs, so that, upon completion of the training, the graduate should be able to treat unusual or more difficult cases.
The short term goal of the Periodontics Graduate Studies Program at King Saud University is to train graduate students to become academically competent, clinically trained to the level of a specialist in the field and to have sufficient exposure to teaching to assume junior faculty positions in recognized academic institutions.
This program, therefore, concerns itself with the basic structure of a three year graduate program leading to a Masters of Science Degree and satisfying the minimum requirements for advanced training of a Specialist in Periodontics.
The program is presented under three sub-headings, Biomedical and Biodental Sciences (core courses), Specialty Courses and Advanced Specialty Courses.
