New Cone Beam CT machine in the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinics

A new cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) was installed in the Oral and maxillofacial Radiology clinics in the College of Dentistry, King Saud University. The unit is Iluma by IMTEC Imaging, USA.

Dr. Ra'ed Al-Sadhan, Chairman of Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences described the new machine as one of the most advanced imaging modalities in this field. Iluma is designed to acquire high resolution images of the oral and maxillofacial structures with high resolution and a relatively low radiation dose compared to the medical CT units available in hospitals that are designed to image all body parts. Dental implant patients, orthognathic surgery cases, orthodontic patients as well as temporomandibular disorders cases will benefit from this advanced diagnostic tool. Both postgraduate students and college faculty will find in this unit an important research tool.
