Labs in Dariyah and Malaz have two sections:
1- Production Labs:
Two production laboratories, one in Dariyah campus (DUC) including 22 dental technicians divided into 4 sections: 1- Plaster, pouring, pindexing; 2- Fixed prosthodontics; 3- Removable prosthodontics; 4- Orthodontics. Each section has a head that report to the laboratory supervisor and a quality control officer to check over the final work before sending it to the clinical floor.
The laboratory is equipped with updated machines and devices that enhance quality and
productivity, the latest move of the lab toward the CAD/CAM era was by purchasing the Cercon eye/ Cercon milling machine that allow technicians to fabricate in-house zirconia prostheses. A program of training/education is implemented and followed in coordination with major companies and manufacturers, as European and American trainers come to our labs to give courses and hands-on training to our technicians; according to availability and specialty technicians will be sent abroad for training and getting familiar with the latest technology.
The laboratory in Malaz campus (MUC) include 12 technicians and is similar to the DUC one in internal management, structuring, as both laboratories are under one directorship
.
2- Student Labs:
All practical and pre-clinical courses are taught in three specialized labs for this purpose to prepare student for the clinical courses. The labs are fully equipped with state of the art equipment and materials to achieve the educational aims desired.
The capacity of these three labs is 60 to 80 students, and the current phantom
lab is being developed to accommodate 120 students. Student use state of the art manikin units and plastic teeth to simulate the patient.
As for the biosciences lab it contains modern optical microscopes and distillation units to prepare solutions for students and Ion concentration measuring devices of hydrogen to measure acidity and alkality; centrifuge equipment solutions mixers by moving magnets in addition to the use of the lab in teaching the courses of the Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences Department, for example Diagnostic Radiology courses and pathological cases using light-boxes.
As for the dental lab technicians program they utilize labs similar to the dental production labs used in the college.
