Educational Administration PhD Program
I- Introduction
King Saud University, being the most prestigious and well-established university in the Kingdom and due to its potentialities, records and achievements in developing the various institutions of the Saudi community, is keen on being the pioneer in maintaining a distinguished degree of academic research. The university has therefore developed postgraduate studies to include PhD programs in some colleges.
The Department of Educational Administration at the College of Education has taken the initiative to set up a PhD program in educational administration. A committee has been formed to set the program's guidelines, admission requirements and degree prerequisites. The committee managed to outline the general, the supporting, and the specialized courses, design their objectives, contents, and descriptions, and divide the program according into levels.
Following a two-year intensive effort by the department staff members, the PhD program in Educational Administration has come into existence.
II- Objectives of the Program
1- Establishing and developing educational thinking in the light of Islamic values and the community development requirements.
2- Preparing qualified national cadres in the different specializations of educational administration with a strong background in the field concerned.
3- Preparing teaching staff required for education and teachers' colleges in the field of educational administration.
4- Providing educational research centers with cadres capable of leading research work in educational fields.
5- Providing educational institutions with national cadres capable of leading educational work within the framework of education policy in the Kingdom and promoting the educational process to meet future needs.
6- Providing students with the required research knowledge, trends and skills to meet the needs of the different fields of educational research.
III- Admission Requirements
Taking into account the statutes governing graduate studies, following are the admission requirements for the PhD program in Educational Administration:
- The student should Get TOEFL score of 450 minimum
- The student should pass an interview set by the department
- Priority shall be given to those who have experience in teaching, educational
administration, or academic research.
Special Requirements of the Educational Administration Department
Following are the special requirements of the Educational Administration Department for the PhD program in both the general and higher education courses:
- The student should have a master of education in educational administration granted by King Saud University or any accredited college or university. Other cases relevant to the field can be duly examined and given a conditional acceptance decided accordingly.
- The student should have obtained a minimum general grade of “ very good” for his masters degree. If the degree has no grade, as it is the case in some universities, the candidate's accumulative rate should be “ very good”.
- The student should pass the examinations set by the Department.
- The student should provide three recommendation letters by teaching staff who taught or supervised him in his masters program to verify his research potentialities in the PhD program in educational administration.
- With the exception of demonstrators and lectures, priority is given to students who have passed a minimum of two years in teaching or educational administration.
- The applicant should be a regular full-time student all through the course of the program.
- With the exception of demonstrators and lectures, the period lapsing since the student obtained his master’s degree should not exceed seven years.
IV- Time for Obtaining the PhD degree in Educational Administration
According to the statutes governing graduate studies, the time for obtaining the PhD degree should not be less than six semesters and not more than ten semesters. Summer semesters are not included in this period.
