About the College of Education

    Established in 1966 (1386) according to the terms of an agreement between the Ministry of Education and UNESCO, the College of Education became an official part of King Saud University a few months later and has since been operated under the premise that it should serve the needs of the Kingdom by preparing quality educators to teach in the elementary, intermediate and secondary schools. At the same time, the College works in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education in improving the academic standing of teachers and administrators through ongoing programs, conferences and seminars.

     Occupying Building No. 15 in the University New Campus of Darriah, the College of Education is served by spacious classrooms, modern language and science laboratories, the Educational Research Center, the Educational Technology Center and the Psychological Testing Center.  All of these facilities are equipped with modern furnishings and equipment to sustain the College's instructional and research efforts. The campus atmosphere is one which easily lends dignity and inspiration to the youth of the Kingdom aspiring to enter the teaching profession.

 

Academic Structure

The College of Education offers work through eight professional education departments and eight supporting departments formed from the College of Science. The professional education departments include:

Kindergarten program study plan was established in 1407 A.H.

All academic work in the College is concentrated around a professional core-curriculum designed to prepare professional educators to meet the needs of the Kingdom's elementary and secondary schools.

Degrees offered by the College of Education

The following degrees and diplomas may be earned through the College of Education.

1.

B.A. in Education: majors in Arabic, English, History, Geography, Psychology and Islamic Studies.

 

2.

B.Sc. in Education: majors in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

 

3.

The General Diploma in Education:

 

Plan A is for students with a university degree without teacher preparation, while Plan B is for principals of intermediate schools who have university degrees. Those following Plan A receive a general diploma at the end of the one year of study , and those enrolled in Plan B are awarded a diploma in school administration.

 

4.

Associate Diploma for Teachers: Initiated as a pioneering experiment in 1975(1395), this program serves as a means for upgrading the credentials of non-university-degree teachers by providing them with the opportunity to complete a curriculum equivalent to half the total number of credit-hours required for a bachelor's degree.

 

5.

Master of Arts: Majors in Islamic studies, Education, Psychology, Educational Methodology and Media studies, Educational technology.
