Industrial Engineering (IE) department at the King Saud University is considered among the newest and the best IE departments not only in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but also in the Middle East. It has national accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The IE department has an internationally recognized faculty, active in developing their industrial engineering knowledge through the publication of research papers in well known international journals and through experiences in local and international companies in both manufacturing and service sectors.

The IE department has both undergraduate and graduate programs designed to provide students with educational experience that is practical and updated.
Industrial Engineering deals with a broad range of complex problems involving both people and technology. Similar to the other engineering fields, the base curriculum includes mathematics and the physical sciences. However, what sets Industrial Engineering (IE) apart is the emphasis on life and social sciences. This study of the human element leads to systems designs that enhance the quality of life for people, both as producers and consumers.

Industrial engineers are employed in almost every type of industry, business, or institution - from retail establishments to manufacturing plants, government offices, and hospitals. Industrial engineers bridge the gap between management and operations. Industrial engineers work closely with top management to improve quality and to increasing productivity.
Increasing complexity, development of automated systems and emphasis on quality and productivity has led to broad employment opportunities for industrial engineers. In fact, IEs are promoted to leadership positions sooner than many other professionals because of their training in engineering problem solving and business management. Many CEOs in several private and public organizations are industrial engineers.
