Introduction

The College of Engineering was established in 1962 as a joint project under the auspices of the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom and UNESCO.

Seven years later, the College of Engineering became an official part of King Saud University. The College which originally started with three departments gradually grew into seven departments:  electrical, civil, surveying, mechanical, industrial, chemical, and petroleum and natural gas.

The College has grown steadily both quantitatively and qualitatively.  As it constantly strives for excellence, the College attracts some of the best students and the finest faculty. The number of students at the College has increased from 17 students in 1962 to more than 4,000 students in 2005.  The faculty members have similarly increased in number from 4 to 210 during the same time span.
