Meanwhile, I would like to take this opportunity to enlighten you about the changes that our college is experiencing, nowadays, with the objectives of achieving both excellences in education, research, and community services. On the education side, the University has introduced a preparatory year for freshmen students intended to pursue their education in engineering. The goal of introducing the preparatory year is to improve the skills of our graduates, namely, the English language skills, the computer skills, and the communication skills. Consequently, the curriculums of the six engineering departments, we currently have, are under review for improvement according to ABET requirements. On the research side, the College, and through the research activities of its faculties, has produced more than 10 patents. Furthermore, the College is the home of 3 research centers of excellence and 10 research chairs including the Sabic research chair for Polymer engineering. On the community service side, the College is proud to offer several professional short courses intended both to engineers as well as technicians and in different disciplines. More than 30% of our faculty members are engaged in both full time and part time consultations with both governmental as well as private institutions. Furthermore, the college has organized a number of national and international conferences. In a month time from now, The Seventh Saudi Engineering Conference will be organized by The College of Engineering. The theme of the conference is “Towards Engineering Environment to Merge in a Competitive Global Economy”. Finally, the College of Engineering has put an excellent strategic plan that will pave the road to transform our vision into reality.
