Dean's Messagae:

  Prof. Awad Al-Asmari   (College Dean)

The directives and instructions from his  Highness the Custodian of  the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz was the main reason behind establishing many Universities and Colleges in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. His vision is to establish more universities and colleges in various parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to accommodate students near their home districts so that they would participate in the development of their areas and communities. This will also release the increasing pressure on the existing universities. To face the increasing demand on higher education by the increasing number of high school graduates in AL-Kharj County and other neighboring counties, King Saud University had considered the establishment of the College of Engineering in Al-Kharj. Under the guidance of His Excellency the President of King Saud University, the Educational and Academic Affairs Directory carried out the necessary studies and preparations for the project. This was concluded by the King Saud University Council decision to establish the College of Engineering in Al-Kharj in its second meeting on 19/9/1426. Since its commencement on Al-Kharj campus, the College of Engineering began processing and completing its highly accredited study plans and developing its teaching and research laboratories in compliant with the national and international accreditation standards, as well as recruiting dedicated staff members to ensure its success.

The mission of the College of Engineering in Al-Kharj is to achieve outstanding undergraduate engineering education, research, and community service. The college, therefore, aims to:

  • Provide students with the basics of scientific and technical knowledge, and scientific thinking required for engineering work after obtaining their bachelor's degrees.
  • Enable students to apply knowledge and engineering analysis in designing engineering projects and in solving engineering problems.
  • Qualify students to have the ability to communicate with the modern engineering techniques and information that may be needed to enter their professional field.
  • Prepare students to be able to peruse their Graduate Studies and Scientific Research in the engineering sciences and their various specializations.

The college started with four engineering disciplines which are Civil Engineering (CE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Industrial Engineering (IE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME) fields. The college may later on include other disciplines depending on the regional needs and on the available facilities.

The Electrical Engineering Department was the first to be established and received the first group of EE students in the second semester of the year 1427/1428. Due to space limitation of current college building, CE and ME departments will begin receiving students as of year 1429/1430.  In the future, we will establish the IE department. We plan to recruit highly qualified faculty members who have excellent background in teaching, research, and other needed social and personal characteristics.

The college is also trying to have very powerful and up-to-date facilities including its different laboratories, engineering workshops, engineering drawing rooms, college library, research center, computer center, meeting rooms, classrooms, and students' praying room.
