 About the Agricultural Engineering Department

Agricultural engineering is essential in regards to planning and carry in out the agricultural projects. particularly those which are applied on large scales. Moreover, it represents the mid-joint between both the agricultural and engineering sciences. There is no doubt that there are direct and active effects of the agricultural engineering on human progress and their welfare. The reason is that it uses the optimum scientific methods for solving problems related to agriculture which in turn helps in the increase  the agricultural production and providing the food security. The Agricultural engineering applies the principles of engineering methods for solving agriculture problems in various fields. Such fields are food process engineering, irrigation and drainage systems, farm power and machinery, and design of agricultural structures and environmental controls, precautions, storage and expiry dates. Measurement of field performance and laboratory educations.

Vision

The department seeks to be an  academic and research reference of engineering applications in the Kingdom and the region to contribute to agricultural production that depends on modern technologies and solutions to its problems.

Mission

Providing distinctive academic programs of Bachelor and Master of Science in four engineering majors: Agricultural Power and Machinery, Water and Irrigation Systems, Food Process Engineering, and and Environmental Control. Those programs are strengthen with the skills and abilities needed by the Alum for the competition in the job market.

Objectives

  • Preparing a highly qualified students scientifically and practically through specialized courses.
  • Conducting scientific and applied research to solve problems in agriculture, and develop agricultural practices using modern technologies.
  • Providing consultations to governmental and private sectors.
  • Providing specialized training sessions and workshops.

Areas of Study:

1. Farm Power and Machinery
Engineering studies of  theoretical practical and applied courses dealing with the design, operation and management of farm tractors and machineries are the main interest of this area.

2. Water and Irrigation Systems
This branch emphasizes on planning and design of serious conventional irrigation methods such as surface irrigation and modern methods as sprinkler and drip irrigation. Besides concentration on box to utilize water resources. a stress is put on water conservation and efficient water use irrespective of the source of water.

3. Food Process Engineering
The food process engineering field deals with the geometric aspects of food processing based on some mathematical fundamentals in order to design processing operations and equipments required for altering raw plant and animal materials into products that are nutritious and high in quality.

4. Agricultural Buildings and Environmental Control
The field of agricultural buildings and environmental control applies the basic mathematical and engineering knowledge in various operations such as the design of building structures for agricultural animal and plant production and the choice of the optimum system for environmental control.

Scientific degrees:

The department offers B.Sc in Biological Systems Engineering and Irrigation Water, in addition to M.Sc degree in Agricultural Engineering in all four branches:

  • Farm Power and Machinery
  • Water and Irrigation Systems .
  • Food Process Engineering
  • Agricultural Buildings and Environmental Control

Facilities:

Several specialized laboratories used for students training and research in department branches are available. For example: Farm Power lab, Electricity lab, Mobile lab and tractor, Irrigation and hydraulic lab, The Food Process Engineering semi-industrial lab, The Sensitive units lab, Environmental Control lab.
