Contents of Agricultural Extension M.Sc. Courses

 Agex 531: Quantitative Analysis of Rural Society (advanced, 3 credit hours)

Building sociological scales, estimating validity and reliability, data processing, principles of quantitative and qualitative research methods, analysis rural social organization with more emphasis on causal models, and writing and interpretation of research findings. 

Agex 552: Application of Social Theories in Agricultural Extension (2 credits hours)

Social theories review, application of basic elements of social theories in extension, social theories and solving rural problems.

Agex 553: Integrated Rural Development (2 credits hours)

Definition and components of development, approaches of development, indicators of integrated rural development, development projects and consequences, development correlates and development case studies.

Agex 554: Rural Population (2 credits hours)

Rural population characteristics, analysis of population variables, rural population and integrated rural development. 

Agex 556: Technological Change Process in Agriculture (2 credits hours)

Technological change theories, approaches of technological change, extension workers as change agent, social consequences of technological change, and constraints of technological change in agriculture. 

Agex 571: Organization and Administration of Extension Service (2 credits hours)

Organization principles, extension structure and characteristics in the Kingdom, organization elements and functions, supervision, and roles and functions of extension personnel.

Agex 572: Planning and Evaluation of Extension Programs (2 credits hours)

Types of extension programs, steps and models of program development, program planning, program evaluation, evaluation techniques, measuring educational effects. 

Agex 574: Communication Theory in Agricultural Extension (2 credits hours)

Communication process in extension, communication elements and models, farmers as receivers, message treatment, and other communication concepts.

 Agex 575: Educational Theories and Its Application in Agricultural Extension (2 credits hours)

Extension education process, extension education elements, learning theories and application of its basic concepts in extension. 

Agex 577: Comparative Agricultural Extension Organizations (Advanced, 2 credits hours)

Extension organization principles, comparative extension systems in different countries, analysis of international extension organizations, and development of the structure of extension service in Saudi Arabia.

Agex 590: Special Studies (2 credits hours)

The graduated students prepare a study in some areas of agricultural extension under the supervision of their advisors.

Agex 595: Seminars (1 credit hour)

Graduate students should participate in investigation, analysis and discussion of social, rural, and new agricultural extension issues under the supervision of the department academic staff members. 

Agex 600: Research and Thesis (6 credits hours)

The student submits a plan for a research in one of the agricultural extension areas. The plan should be developed under the guidance of the supervisory committee, and should be approved by the department council.
