A.  UNDERGRADUATE:

1.  COLLEGE OF MEDICINE:    

a.) 044, CMED, SUMMER COURSE     4 Cr. Hours
     CLINICAL PRACTICE AND RESUSCITATION  

The course consists of theoretical and practical parts. The course focuses on the assessment,
care of injuries and medical emergencies. It covers general work in medical specialties,
general surgery, medicine, paediatric, obstetric and gynecological wards, operating
theatres, intensive care units and the accident and Emergency Department. The course covers the following: clinical assessment, clerking, recording and charting of vital signs. The practical component of the course is held at the Training Centre.

OBJECTIVES:
The student will be exposed to Basic & Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course beside other resuscitation procedures and ethical issue on clinical practice.

At the end of this course the students will be able to gain skill in resuscitation (cardiac, trauma, etc…). Also they have to complete the logbook which contains 20 different cases.

EVALUATION:
• Attendance
• Basic & Advanced Cardiac Life Support Examination (OSCE)
• Marking of logbook (2o cases)                                               

b.) SURG 451       10 Cr. Hours
The course covers pure anesthesia and Intensive  Care. It is composed of theoretical and practical parts. The student is expected to complete the required logbook.

OBJECTIVES:
The course teaches the following,

1.) Pre-operative Clinical Assessment and medical anesthetic problems.
2.) Re-certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
3.) Intra-operative monitoring
4.) Principles of critical care, monitoring and management in S.I.C.U.
5.) Post-operative chest & cardiac complications and its management
6.) Basic Principles of General & Local Anesthesia

EVALUATION:
• Attendance
• Logbook
• Special OSCI/Oral Examination (part of the surgical examination)


2.  COLLEGE OF DENTISTRY:

 a.) DEN 381, BASIC EMERGENCY CARE CPR:
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AND FIRST AID  1 Cr. Hour


The student will be  certified in Basic Life Support and first aid.

OBJECTIVES:
The courses teaches the basic anatomy of cardiovascular respiratory system with emphasis on vital signs,  common medical emergencies and their First Aid.

COURSE CONTENT:
The course content includes anatomy, physiology of cardio respiratory system,           epidemiology of cardiac disease risk factors, first aid procedures for different emergency conditions.

 EVALUATION:
• Participation and attendance
• Practical Examination
• Written Examination

b.) DEN 491
ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT AND
COMPLICATIONS IN DENTAL CHAIR   10 Cr. Hours

OBJECTIVES:
The course teaches the basic anatomy of cardiovascular respiratory system with emphasis on vital signs,  common medical emergencies, and their First Aid.

 COURSE CONTENT:
The course includes anatomy, physiology of cardio respiratory system epidemiology of cardiac disease risk factors, first aid procedures for different emergency conditions.

 

EXAMINATION:
Examination will be incorporated with Course 491-DEN.
CPR Advanced composed of 10 lectures and 4 practical sessions / day for 5 days. The student will be re-certified in Basic and Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
 

3.  COLLEGE OF APPLIED HEALTH SCIENCES:

a.) NUR 241, BASIC EMERGENCY CARE
(FIRST AID AND BASIC LIFE SUPPORT COURSE) 3 Cr. Hours

It deals with First Aid, general nursing care and basic life support.  It is composed of  theoretical and practical parts.

OBJECTIVES:
It  teaches the basic anatomy of cardiovascular respiratory system with emphasis on vital signs,  common medical emergencies, and their First Aid.

COURSE CONTENT:
The course includes anatomy, physiology of cardio respiratory system epidemiology of cardiac disease risk factors; first aid procedures for different emergency conditions.

EVALUATION:
• Grading is according to the University and College Policy.
• Semester assessment

b.) FEMALE NURSING: 231
ALL ABOVE COURSES COMPULSORY FOR ALL STUDENTS MALES AND FEMALES

B.  POSTGRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN ANAESTHESIA AND I.C.U.(F.A.K.S.U.):

1.  RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAMME:                  
     This is a four-year program. Most of the Riyadh hospitals are affiliated in this program. The department is in contact with Faculties of Anesthesia in North Africa, England and Australia for recognition.

      2.  DENTAL MASTER DEGREE (M.D.S.) IN FASCIOMAXILLARY: 
* 3 ½ years training program. 
* One year is assigned to rotate in anesthesia department for lectures and practical 
 training in dental blocks, sedation relative on analgesia and G.A. etc., CPR (Basic 
 and Advanced) and two years rotation in the operating theatres morning only.

3.  OTHER RESIDENCY TRAINING PROGRAM:
Participation in other Residency Training Programs in surgery, ENT, X – ray, Emergency medicine, orthopedics, Faciomaxill & general surgery etc.

4.  ANAESTHETIC COURSES/SYMPOSIUMS/WORKSHOPS:

         * Preparatory Course for King Saud University Fellowship, Saudi Board & Arab Board  in Anesthesia
       *  Recent Advances in Obstetric Analgesia/Anesthesia (Mini-Symposium)
       *  Awake Fibreoptic Intubations (Workshop)
       *  Workshop on Neuromuscular Transmission and Monitoring
