The department of medical biochemistry is located on the second and first floor of collage of medicine and King Khalid University Hospital .The department of medical biochemistry was established in 1969. The department has a long standing and impressive history within King Saud University. The department includes four highly seven highly qualified full time faculty staff member, one demonstrator and seven residents .The faculty member are western universities graduates. They are highly expertise in their fields. They are actively involved in collaborative efforts both within the department and within other researchers through out basic and clinical science departments' .The chairman of the department is Professor Mohsen A.F. El- Hazmi. Staff members are involving in the teaching of Medical and Clinical Biochemistry, Genetics Molecular Biology and Laboratory Medicine to medical students as well as postgraduates and residents. The training of interns and residents is one of main task of the staff.
Undergraduate and postgraduate courses are presented covering the major discipline and sub-discipline of Medical and Clinical Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology and Laboratory Medicine postgraduate courses emphasis recent finding as well as relevant fundamental backgrounds information.
Seminars program within the department provides the students with an opportunity to actively participate in the discussion of most recent advances in the fields of medical sciences. Also the department offers annual training courses and workshops in the field of molecular genetics. These training courses and workshops are presented most recent knowledge. Expertise from inside and outside the country is sharing actively in courses and workshops. King Saud program in pathology (Clinical Biochemistry) is available to qualified medical applicants from MB,Bch holders. The program is joint program between four hospital : King Khalid university hospital , King Faisal specialist hospital a King Fahad national guard hospital and Armed Forces Hospital in Riyadh .The residents who are enrolled in the program ,well be actively involved in the activity of in seminars and daily laboratory training and activity in both routine and special biochemistry.
The department offers excellent patients services in fields of special and routine biochemistry for 24/24 hours. The department has good facilities for routine and special biochemistry includes fully automated clinical analyzer, atomic absorption HBLC Amino acid analyzer ,and sequential instruments for DNA amplification for hormonal assay
