  THE OBSTETRICS & GYNAECOLOGY DEPARTMENT KING KHALID UNIVERSITY 

                                                       HOSPITAL

 ·                      The Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department at the KKUH is 

                 one   of the biggest academic/clinical department at the King

                      Saud Medical College.

- The king Khalid University Hospital, being a tertiary centre, accepts complicated cases referred to it from other medical institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

- It is one of the centres for the training of post graduates in obstetrics and gynaecology. It is recognized by the Saudi Council for medical specialization, the Arab Board and the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in the U.K.

- The department is equipped with very modern and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tools which help to give the best to patient who present.

- The Unit has a 140-bed capacity allocated as follows:

                              38 Gynaeecology beds,

                              34 Antenatal beds.

                              15 beds for Labour and Delivery.  

                              62 Post Natal beds.

- Day care in postnatal ward

. The delivery suite has its own obstetrics & Gynaecology Theater and an adjoining recovery room. Caesarean Sections and other problems related to delivery are performed in this theater.

  . There is a room exclusively for gynaecological surgery. This room is part of the main theater complex for the hospitals surgical procedures.

Menopausal Clinic

- For the promotion of academic and clinical excellence the department has a number of sub divisions.

 1.        Perinatology:

       Includes a high risk pregnancy clinic, recurrent fetal loss

                 clinic and genetic Counselling clinic :

- High risk pregnancy  clinic

Gives care to patients with obstetric and medical  complication of pregnancy

- Recurrent fetal loss clinic

Gives care for patients with more than 3 fetal loss.

- Genetic counselling clinic

Provides counselling antenately and postnately to patients who give brith to any abnormal children

2. Ultrasound:

The Unit provides a high standard ultrasound  examination

With 3D & 4 D, ultrasound machines which provide

training for the  Doctors and specialists on ultrasound.

  *  Embryology laboratory for egg and sperm collection,  invitro-fertilization

    (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

*  Operating theater for egg and sperm collection.

*  Office for head of embryology laboratory.

*  Conference Room and Computer office for  patient data base.

The purpose of this unit is to counsel and manage and treat couples with primary and secondary infertility in perform of operative laposcopy, hystroscopy, induction of ovulation, intrauterine insemination (IUI), Invitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic 

   sperm injection (ICSI).

 Gynaecological Oncology.   

A huge unit providing minimally invasive and extensive surgery for

early and advanced genital tract cancers, chemotherapy and   radiotherapy

  6. Urogynaecology Unit:

The Urogynaecology Unit offer treatment to all lower  urinary tract

 Disorder for women patients referral to the Unit with a histry of

 Bladder dysfunction , incontinence (Urge & stress), genital prolapsis. The Unit is able to offer assessment, diagnosis , investigations and   Surgery.

The Urodynamic unit is  established with latest mechine to aid in the   Investgation & diagnosis of selected case of bladder dysfuction &     Incontinence.

 7.  Pediatric and Adolescent Unit:

 

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology is a section of the OBGYN Department at KKUH. It was established to provide the most modern expert medical care to meet the needs of infants, children, adolescents, and teens with gynecologic problems.

We accept patients for primary management as well as referrals from other medical centers.  The section is fully staffed by a faculty (Dr Salwa Neyazi MD) with subspecialty in Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology, experienced nurses, and administrative support, all of whom are devoted to the goal of providing your patients with the highest quality healthcare.
The Section for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology offers a comprehensive range of services for the evaluation, diagnosis, specialized treatment, and follow-up care of children and adolescents with gynecologic disorders including, but not limited to:

·         heavy, frequent, or painful menstrual periods

·         irregular or infrequent menstrual periods

·         1 ry amenorrhea (no menstruation by the age of 16)  3

·         2ry amenorrhea (no menstruation for > 3months in a girl with previously normal menses)

·         signs of early sexual maturation

·         signs of delayed sexual maturation

·         chronic genital rashes or itching

·         vaginal discharge, drainage or odor

·         genital warts

·         unusual appearance of the genitals

·         abdominal pain

·         ovarian cysts, or pelvic masses

·         abdominal pain, pelvic endometriosis

·         birth defects involving the reproductive organs

·         injuries involving the reproductive organs ( trauma or sexual abuse)

·         contraception

·         hirsutism/ acne

It is our philosophy that your daughter's first visit to the gynecologist should be a positive experience. All examinations are age-appropriate and are provided by a sensitive and caring specialist. A special effort is made by all physicians and staff to explain tests, treatments and procedures, and patients and their families are encouraged to ask questions

  

Other Information

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at King Khalid University Hospital offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for women. There are more 11 physicians on the staff of the department. Besides patient care, staff members are also involved in research and medical education.

In obstetrics, the hospital offers expert, personalized care for women before, during. and after pregnancy. Over 1,500 infants are delivered in our Labor and Delivery facility yearly. The facility consists of eight labor, delivery, recovery rooms and two dedicated obstetric operating rooms, as well as a triage/monitoring area.

The Maternal and Fetal physicians specialize in high-risk pregnancies; they care for women who have obstetric, medical, surgical or genetic complications of pregnancy and can assist in consultation or co-management of complicated conditions before (pre-conception counseling) or during pregnancy. As a tertiary care centre the department in addition to providing services for women with low risk pregnancies the Department acts as a referral centre for high risk women who need special care. Fetal medicine clinic is available for early detection of fetal anomalies and fetal well being. 

King Khalid University Hospital gynecology surgeons specialize in surgery of all types related to benign gynecologic disorders. They also offer an integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female genital tract. This involves all aspects of the surgical management of gynecologic cancer together with coordination of subsequent chemotherapy and radiation therapy, if indicated.

Gynecology also includes pelvic and reconstructive surgery specialists (urogynecologists) as well as experts in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Urogynaecologists provide consultation and comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic testing to women with complex pelvic floor conditions including urinary and fetal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, genitourinary fistulas, and congenital anomalies. They offer special expertise in more complex problems such as management of urinary and fecal incontinence, fistulas, vaginal prolapse and reconstructive surgery of the pelvis.

Gynecologists at King Khalid University Hospital provide both preventive gynecological care and diagnostic services for women. Preventive care includes Pap smear testing and contraceptive counseling.

In oncology, the department includes two certified gynecologic oncologists, offering highly skilled, state-of-the art care for women with cancers of the female reproductive tract. The Department offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services, including medical and surgical treatment for cancer or precancerous conditions of the reproductive tract. The department's physicians are experts in their fields. They provide innovative and advanced medical and surgical treatment options for patients coping with both pre-cancerous and malignant conditions, including cancer of the cervix, ovary, uterus, vulva, and vagina.

The In-Vitro Fertilization Centre manages complex problems related to infertility and related issues, including recurrent pregnancy loss, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis and risk of genetic disorders in offspring.

In addition to the general gynecology services, the department acts as referral centre for complicated cases. Further services include urodynamic study, diagnostic and operative endoscopy. Further expansion in these fields is expected.
