Department Programs
The College of Medicine has a unified curriculum leading students to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. The different academic departments in the college participate in teaching this curriculum. Faculty members of each department teach specific courses for undergraduate students of the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry and Applied Medical Sciences.
The Department of Pathology and Microbiology is in charge of the following courses:
COLLEGE OF MEDICINE COURSES:
1. 211 PATH (Histology, Cytology and Hematology) 10 credit hours.
2. 221 MAC (Bacteriology, Immunology, Mycology, Parasitology and Virology) 6 credit hours.
3. 196 KATAB (Arabic Medical Terminology) 1 credit hour.
4. 201 KATAB (clinical Laboratory sciences) 1 credit hour.
COURSES FOR OTHER COLLEGE:
1. Dental Pathology 210 PATH 3 credit hours.
2. Hematology – Clinical Practice 422 CLN 2 credit hours.
3. Clinical Mycology for the College of Applied Medical Sciences 312 CLN 3 credit hours.
4. Diagnostic Microbiology for the College of Applied Medical Sciences 512 CLN 4 credit hours.
The department has been coordinating the King Saud University (KSU) Fellowship Program in pathology since 1988 in four sub-specialties:
- Histopathology and Cytology.
- Microbiology.
- Hematology.
- Biochemistry.
The duration of this program is five years and requires trainees to register as full-time students. This program is executed in collaboration with other departments of Pathology and Microbiology in the following hospitals:
- King Faisal Specialist Hospital.
- Riyadh Military Hospital.
- King Fahd National Guard Hospital.
The number of male and female students registered in the KSU Fellowship for Pathology and Microbiology program at the end of academic year 1424/1425 H is as follows:

Those interested in joining any of these training programs should contact the department to take the mandatory written and oral tests for selection.
Also, the department participates in the following fellowship programs:

2. KSU Fellowship in Dermatology.
3. Diploma and Fellowship in ENT.
4. Msc. in Health care.
5. Post-graduate Msc. in Dentistry.
6. Diploma in Psychiatry and Neurology.
7. Arab Board in Medicine and Surgery.
8. Msc. in clinical Laboratory Sciences in the College of Applied Medical Sciences.
9. Supervision of Candidates for Msc. Degree in Medical specialties from other colleges.
