PROF. ABDULQADER A. ALHAIDER
Research Activities:
- Pharmacological Line:
This involves the study of the mechanism of drug actions and their relationship to the etiology of diseases with special emphasis on the serotonergic antidepressants and their interaction with different neurotransmitter systems in the brain as well as the relation of this interaction to the desensitization of central β-adrenoceptors. For the last 12 years, my basic research concentrated on the involvement of serotonin in pain, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases, eating and drinking behaviors. I shared with the gastroenterologist, Prof. Almofleh, a project entitled “Effect of spices in peptic ulcer induced in experimental animals. This project was supported by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology for two years, which started in May, 1998.
- Clinical and Epidemiological Line:
Due to my attachment to the Nephrology Unit, I became interested in the field of patient compliance to their medications and the effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in patients with renal disease during Ramadan fasting. Recently, I focused my studies on the use of alternative medicines by Saudi patients.
