244 NURS Medical Surgical Nursing

This course focuses on the management of major health concerns among ill adults. It is designed to discuss the common problems encountered in the care of the ill adults. The course involves studying alterations in human functioning care of patients with alterations within the body systems. The focus is on the nursing care of medical surgical patients experiencing disruptions in health status characterized by moderate intensity. Learning experiences include working with adults in ambulatory and acute settings.

245 NURS Clinical Aspect of Medical Surgical Nursing

This course is offered as a co-requisite to NUR 244. The course focuses on helping students to develop advanced skills and clinical competence in the nursing management of adult patients with alterations in human functioning. Emphasis is on developing clinical competencies necessary to provide care in complex acute health care settings. The nursing process approach will be used in providing nursing care.

This course provides the theoretical basis and related current clinical approaches for the practice of critical care. Advanced assessment skills, diagnostic reasoning and decision making are emphasized. Clinical application of theoretical content will include pathophysiology, pharmacology and treatment modalities. A collaborative care model provides the framework for the management and evaluation of care. The focus is on situational crisis and clients with multi-system failures who requires sophisticated technologies.

The major focus of this clinical course is on the assessment and diagnosis within a conceptual framework of nursing practice . the assessment focuses on physiological and behavioral changes in health status . The practicum provides the student with an opportunity to test the articulation of selected concepts within a clinical perspective by performing assessment skills ,interpreting findings ,applying laboratory diagnostic methods,developing palne of care and implemnting nursing strategies to promote personal ,cognitive, and physical health of clients. Students select a specific adult medical surgical pateint population for concentration in this course .

Individualized clinical experiences in acute or long term settings are based on the students interest and past experience . The major objectives of this independent study experience are to examine problems and responsiblities associted with the clinical specialist role in nursing and to develop further competencies in the area of clinical specialization
