 Al Mabiyat

  Al-Mabiyat (Qurh)

Al-Mabiyat is located near the village of Mugheira, some 20 kilometers south of the modern town of Al-Ula.

Archaeological remains at the site point towards an inclusive town, extending longitudinally from east to west, enclosed by a meandering protective outer wall. Recent excavations at the site revealed narrow streets, parts of private and public buildings, some with plastered brick walls and some paved with mud-bricks.

Al-Mabiyat turns to be one of the earliest Islamic towns in Wadi al-Qura. It was established during the second century A.H. (8th century A.D.), before it flourished between the 2nd and 4th century A.H (8th to 10th centuries A.D.), and was finally abandoned by the end of the 6th century A.H.(12th century A.D.).
