Welcome to COLT...
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our site, but more importantly to our second home, the College of Languages and Translation.
We offer a BA Degree in Translation in a 5 year program in either English or French. The first two years consist of condensed language skills to prepare students for theoretical and practical translation in the years to follow. We are hoping to add to these languages as well as introduce a Graduate program in the very near future.
We are also responsible for the English courses given to students of other colleges and departments.
COLT is blessed with a friendly atmosphere, the like of which does not exit elsewhere. This is the result of the hard-working professionals who teach in the classrooms of buildings 19, 20 and 22 who are dedicated, loyal and enthusiastic. Their rapport with each other and with their students is special and unique and I believe that, in time, we shall be seeing exciting changes in the academic development of our younger staff as they return to us with MAs and PhDs from universities in the Kingdom or abroad.
We also take great pride in our students without whom this college would not exist. They are our motivation and a pleasure to teach. Although they all begin complaining about the 5 years they need to complete their BA degree, they end up with sadness in their eyes when it's time for them to leave. And when they do leave the walls of COLT behind them, I hope they take with them not only the memories of all they learnt academically, but also those of the friendships they made, the warmth that was given to them by their teachers and the ambitions which were born and nurtured within the walls of COLT.
It inspires me to hear from them once they leave, informing us of the job offers they were given and those that were accepted, the graduate programs they joined or even the families they created, all the while knowing that the base they had at COLT was solid enough for them to take on these major steps in their lives. And for the most part, these steps are wide-ranging and varied. From working in their field of translation, to working in banks, hospitals, schools, charities, handicapped centers, the United Nations or becoming colleagues at the college etc., our graduates have the knowledge, strength and good sense to be able to participate in any challenging post.
It warms my heart to see our young girls turn into responsible women serving our society, our country and our religion in the best way possible and I'm grateful that COLT was given the opportunity to play a part – however small – in this evolution.
