Course Description
Name of the course: Information Technology Skills (ICIT)
The Twenty First century has brought before us the Information Age. Computers and Internet have radically transformed our lives and opened up new avenues of knowledge, information, work, employment, business, entertainment and communication. Information Technology literacy has become essential for survival and growth in the Knowledge Society and for advancing ahead on the career path.
Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, India, has, therefore designed a unique course in IT literacy viz: International Certificate in Information Technology (ICIT). This course comprises of lectures, demonstrations as well as hands-on practice sessions backed up by high quality study material.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students will:

Course Materials
A book ‘Computing Essentials’ by Timothy J. O’Leary and Linda I. O’Leary is being presented to the students as a part of the study material. The book covers the various basic concepts, terminology and large number of interesting and useful applications of Information Technology in everyday life. The book thus gives a very lucid and highly illustrated introduction of information technology.
Students are requested to go through the review section at the end of each chapter and solve the objective questions, critical thinking questions and on the web exercises individually as well as in group and under the guidance of the teachers.
Some of the special features of the book are enlisted below:
o “Making IT work for you” boxes visually demonstrate how information technology is used in everyday life.
o “A Look to the Future” boxes present interesting discussions about potential future trends in IT and the implications these trends have on the world.

Multimedia content with rich voice over is made available to the students in their personal logins on the eLearning Portal. This content complements the information given in the book and focuses on applied aspects of the curriculum with an emphasis on specific software tools. The content is organized in the form of tutorials which will help student to explore the tool and understand how to use it. Every Assignment in the tutorial focuses on imparting IT skills to the student at the user level.
The content is empowered with Learning Management System and is personalized for every learner keeping his individual learning record as well as the performance monitor.
The learning material has high academic standard, effective presentation, learner friendly interface and is easy to navigate. Student is guided with prompts through various interactive sessions in the content so as to offer “learning by doing” experience on various software tools. These are followed by Practice sessions wherein you can rehearse without prompts.
